Walt Disney Productions was the firm bearing the name of its co-founder and name sake whose legendary Mickey Mouse put the firm on the theatrical map. Previously known as Walt Disney Studios, the firm changed its name to Walt Disney Productions in 1929 at the suggestion of Walt's brother Roy, the name it would hold until 1986 when it was renamed The Walt Disney Company.
Knowing the dates of the company's name changes can help collectors narrow the time range of collectibles as most were clearly marked by the brand conscious company.
Even prior to the 1929 name change, the firm had its founding name of Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio which the brothers established when they moved to Los Angeles to setup shop in 1923. Finding materials with this mark would be a rare find indeed.
