ARTnews reports in its Summer 2013 edition that Ali Subotnick has produced a retrospective exhibition of the art of 78 year old Lyn Foulkes, an eccentric and controversial artist who competes with Robert Maplethorpe with some truly bizarre if not tasteless art. While Maplethorpe earned fame by depicting a crucifix in a jar of urine, Foulkes produced a painting with a human fetus in it which he sold to an unsuspecting patron to whom a refused a refund when the horrified woman discovered what she bought.: caveat emptor as they say.
